Hello Bob, this is Kelly with Dyson. Some purifiers will use an ionizer, which releases charged chemicals into the air. These bond with particulates, and assist to remove those particles. This, however, generates ozone in the home. Dyson Purifiers do not use Ionization to purify the air and do not generate ozone. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support

Scientists claimed it to be negligibly, however, in the long term it may affect a person to get lung cancer. Please do more research on your end before purchasing any air purifier.
