Yes, but it takes like 2 minutes. It was not nearly as difficult to put together as other vacuums I've purchased. You are not building Ikea furniture here and they give you all the parts you need to put it together.

Yes, there is a minimal amount of assembly required. Worst part of vacuum is very little storage area for cleaning tools needed. Have to carry them around with you.

Yes, the Dyson Animal Ball needs to be assembled, but the directions are very plain. Not hard to do. There is a video on-line by Dyson that is helpful also.
