- Answer No, it will work without Wi-Fi and act like a standard thermostat. You'd be better off getting a cheap standard thermostat if not connecting the unit online.

QuestionCan it be set to cool or heat only? If I set it to 75deg. I want it to cool to 75 only. If it happens to cool to 74 , I dont want the heat to kick in to heat it to 75. I dont want it to go back&forth between cooling&heating. This is a big electric waste.

- Answer I believe that may be an option (not sure on the specifics), but you also can set it to only heat or only cool - it won't switch back and forth between the furnace and A/C.

- Answer The ecobee3 lite does have a backlit display. The backlight activates when you interact with the thermostat, such as tapping the screen or adjusting settings. It doesn't stay on continuously, but it will turn on automatically when needed, making it easier to read in low-light conditions.

QuestionMy apartment wifi uses captive portal login......basically like a hotel I have to go to a website to log into the wireless network. Does this device work with wifi login page/captive portal network? If it doesnt do you know one that does?
