• The thermostat itself doesn't have a battery that I'm aware of. It is powered off the 24 VAC on the thermostat wires. The remote sensor that comes with some packages along with the thermostat does have a lithium battery that is replaceable. Website should have instructions.

• Hi Jan! That alert is for your ecobee SmartSensor. SmartSensor uses a single 3-volt CR-2477 battery. They can be readily found in most hardware stores as well as from online retailers such as Best Buy.
