If you set up smart home/away, when the sensors detect motion it will set your temperature to your home profile so will keep the temp at that temperature as long as people are moving in the house. Also. If you have Apple devices you can control it from there by whose home or away. Other smart assistants can also be integrated. I was able to set mine up on 30+ old HVAC system. Very strait forward instructions and you can also call their support line if you have questions.

The Ecobee thermostat can be manually adjusted by slide bar at the thermostat without using a phone. We set our thermostat to monitor for occupancy in four locations (sensors) in the house. if any one sensor or the main thermostat registers occupancy, the away mode does NOT kick in and the temperature is NOT affected by the presence of a phone. The phone is a way to display the current occupancy and temperature of any of the rooms with sensors. We have family that like to adjust the AC down during the more expensive part of the day, so we monitor it by phone and take it off hold if needed. Our AC/heater system was simple to wire and install and Ecobee tech support talked us through it. (Our house was built in 1978 and is in Central CA.) However, you might want to contact Ecobee to ask about your existing system before you decide. You might need help with wiring if it is more complex than ours. It has been our experience that it will help you keep costs down and rooms comfortable. Good luck!

You can remotely adjust the temperatures though if you think someone is at home. Note: ecobee doesn’t support geofencing on 2 phones. You will have to use HomeKit to enable geofencing on multiple phones. And on the installation, follow below instructions. As long as you have all the necessary wires including C wire on your existing thermostat, it’s a simple process to replace it with new. See attached pictures for reference. 1. Shut off power to your thermostat and HVAC system at the circuit breaker. 2. If you have a separate turn on and off switch at HVAC switch board, turn it off as well. 3. Remove your original thermostat's faceplate. 4. Take a picture of your existing thermostat wiring. 5. Label your thermostat wires if they aren't already. 6. Disconnect your thermostat wires from your old thermostat. 7. Uninstall your original thermostat's baseplate. 8. Feed the wires through the new baseplate and screw it to the wall. 9. Connect the wires to the appropriate ports. 10. Attach the faceplate to the baseplate. 11. Turn power on to your HVAC system and thermostat at the circuit breaker and also at switch board.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The thermostat has a smart home/away feature. It utilizes the occupancy sensor built into the thermostat, and it utilizes the included room sensor (this assumes you’re purchasing an ecobee 4 or the latest generation; ecobee3 lite does not come with an additional sensor). The thermostat and the room sensor detect occupancy, therefore it operates based on whether or not the house is actually in use. If you purchase more room sensors, the thermostat will be much more accurate when determining if someone is home. A smartphone is not necessary for this specific feature.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The thermostat itself and any sensors detect if people are in the house. It does not use your phone solely. You can set the thermostat to "Follow Me" which will allow the thermostat or sensor to detect if you're in the room (provided you have a sensor in each room you're occupying). You can also set Home and Away times if you know there are specific days or times when people are or are not home. In addition, if you use Apple HomeKit, Alexa, or IFTTT you can set a routine where you will indicate you're home or away and it will change the temp. accordingly.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The temperature drops unless there's movement near the sensors.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes it can detect occupancy if someone is home . Just make sure while setting home away mode, choose someone can be home or you can turn off the home away mode. Installing is very easy . Download the app first and then follow the directions from home, it is way easy. One important thing is make sure you have a common wire on thermostat otherwise you need to find someone to install the accessory wire for common wire which comes with the thermostat. I didn’t have to use it , mine already have a common wire. Hope it help.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Temperature should stay the same with people still at home. Unless person with phone overrides the temperature while away. Easy to install, but check to be sure you have at least 5 wires to old HVAC unit.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It can tell when rooms are occupied. I don’t touch the temp much once I’ve set it.
