• There are no batteries. Thermostat is powered by 24 volts from the furnace.

• There is no battery in the unit, it draws it's power from the thermostat Rc or Rh wire coming from your HVAC units control board. You also need a 24 common wire. If you don't have a common, the unit comes with a common wire adapter to work in lieu of a dedicated common wire.

• Great question! All ecobee smart thermostats require a C wire or use of the included Power Extender Kit (PEK) to ensure constant power.
