The Ecobee Smart sensor allows temperature measurement in a location other than the main unit which must be attached to the wires that attach to the HVAC unit. Many times the main thermostat is in a hallway but the temperature in the hallway is different from your living room or bedroom. Put a remote smart sensor in either or both of these rooms to monitor those temperatures and feedback to Ecobee to control the HVAC. Note: remote smart sensor must be within about 30 to 40 feet of the Ecobe unit in order to communicate with it. The remote smart sensor does not have any wires so can be placed anywhere within this distance.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The smart sensor is primarily marketed as an accessory for your thermostat, to detect presence in a room. In doing such it would help to regulate the air in that area of your home. The gotcha with this is that without a dedicated HVAC system for each room, it would simply run the main unit until it cooled off areas which the smart sensors detected as occupied. This means other areas might be too cold or too hot, depending upon the season, from running to cool warmer areas in the summer, or heating areas in the winter, that are occupied while the other areas got too hot or too cold. They do have the ability to detect environmental conditions in the rooms they are placed. But only if used with the ecobee smart thermostat. The secondary purpose of these could be to act as a burglary sensor, to detect the presence of an intruder. I've not been impressed with my testing of this for that purpose.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Smart Senor acts as additional temperature sensors around your house to allow for full house control of the temperature. I have placed one of these upstairs, and one downstairs in our house. There was a 10-12 degree difference before I installed my Ecobee with the additional Smart Sensors. Now, there is 3-4 degree difference in our house between all floors. I also have been using the Smart Sensors as motion sensors in SmartThings to trigger automations.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.A SmartSensor is placed in a room(s) other than the room where the smart thermostat is located. The SmartSensor detects movement in an individual room which is communicated to the smart thermostat to allow the programming to be activated in the smart thermostat so temperature may change automatically when presence is detected. The SmartSensor, when placed 4 feet from the floor, picks up the movement of humans, but does not pick up the movement of pets.
I would recommend:
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It tells ecobee if someone is in the room and what temperature the room is to better regulate the houses temperature.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This particular one measures temp, occupancy, movement. You can use these functions to regulate temperature, trigger automations
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Sends temperature, humidity, and occupancy details back to your Ecobee thermostat, so that it can efficiently heat/cool your house.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. These help the Ecobee thermostats see the temperature in more rooms in your house than just where the thermostat is.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The ecobee SmartSensor measures the temperature and occupancy of the rooms you use the most. You can select which sensors you want to participate in your schedule to ensure you're comfy.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The sensors measure the temp in each room of the house and will adjust your air to keep the room at the temp you've set.
