It still uses the modem. Most modems have wifi built into them, which you would turn off. Whether you will need two or three depends on how your place is constructed.

However, unless you need the additional Ethernet ports in the second area I’d consider getting the 1 pro plus 2 beacon pack.. right now it should only be $40 more.. I purchased this 2 pro pack because I wanted to hardwire my gaming systems in 2 rooms, but if your going wireless the beacons are easier to hide.. good luck buddy
