• I bought for xp424 But I think the xp420 uses the same.

• Buy the number on the existing cartridge. It is actually toner powder not ink. It is fused at high temperature onto the paper. On the box it will say it works for the Epson XP 420. Do NOT buy a cartridge that does not say it works for your printer!

• Epson 220 ink cartridges is the correct part for the Epson XP420 printer.

• You need the Epson 220 & you decide which colors you need. So just look to see what color ink you need and order. I usually order the 4 pack with my black being XL so I don't run out of black as quickly. Hope I was able to help!
