“I have xp-6100. This item states color cartridges print ~300 pages and that the black will print ~500 pages. I printed 150 pages and black ink ran out. Why is this happening and can I default to the photo black when I run out?”

No, they have specific restrictions in place to prevent you from printing with any empty cartridges installed. Do not support companies like EPSON. Consider a different brand for your future purchase.

Most of this ink is used to charge the ink delivery system, and the remaining ink will be available for printing. Epson uses ISO/IEC 24711 tests to determine page yield.
