I bought mine with the intent to scan documents and photos. We scanned some documents - it was super fast. It will even scan 2 sided documents at the same speed it scans single sided documents; super impressed with the document scanning. I have another sheet feeder printed/scanner but it is much slower and only scans the front.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Just lower the resolution for simple black and white text documents, so that you don't use as much storage space! I use this scanner for both business documents and photos. It's great!

I felt I had to upgrade from the ES500W due to image quality. If you are looking at document scanning you should be fine with the ES500W. On either model you can adjust settings for single or double scanning as needed on your batch scans, it's very easy. I'm not a big Epson fan but these scanners seem to be the best in the market at this level. I hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can use this to scan documents, but they have to be able to feed through the scanner. For greater flexibility for scanning documents, I would recommend an all-in-one printer/scanner/fax. One that has a flatbed scanner allows you to scan large items. I use mine occasionally to print out a page from a book, where I have to open the book and place one of its pages face down on the scanner. You can't do that with the Epson FastFoto since it only takes single pages that can be fed through it.
