I have the same issue, and I find Epson's reply here to be a cop out. I can change the permissions on a file by file basic, but I can not change the permissions on the folder to apply the new settings to all of my previously scanned images. I can not even view a rotated photo using the Windows Photo Viewer, let alone edit or save the files. within the FastFoto software, I can only change the data and filename by right-clicking on the photo and changing the description. The rest of the "edit" menu buttons are greyed out. The folder that FastFoto created to store the scans in is set as Read Only, and the permissions can not be changed using the Properties>Security settings on the folder level. The scans themselves only have permissions to Allow Read & Execute, but not Modify or Full Control. This is annoying.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.1st workaround the Greyed out Editing icons in FastFoto Software - not allow to edit or turn photos. Before starting Epson FastFoto scanning App, Right click on your App Icon on your desktop and select "Run as Administrator" option. After scanning into FastFoto folder is done, you should be able to rotate and do minor editing of the photos in the FastFoto folder. But 1st solution is still not going to fix the problem of NOT Being able to edit these photos using a standard Photo Editing/Viewing App in Windows. If you try to do so - the message will come up "You may not have permission to edit these files" - to fix this solution permanently go to 2nd solution. 2nd Solution - this will fix all your editability issues with photos scanned with FastFoto FF-680W Scanner -Dont need to run the App as an Administrator for this solution - run it regularly just double-clicking on the App icon on your Desktop. Setup your Scanning parameters. After scan is done, close your FastFoto App. Open standard Windows Explorer file manager, - go to the folder where your newly scanned Photos are. Select all the photos inside this folder (select 1st file, press and hold Shift key on your keyboard, and select the last file in the folder. Right Click and choose COPY (DO NOT SELECT CUT!!) Create new folder in your "Pictures" folder, open it, Right Click inside and choose PASTE. This will create new set of the same pictures you just scanned, but WITHOUT all the attributes that locks your picture file and makes them uneditable. Delete all the originals from the FastFoto folder. Now you have your scanned COPIED into new folder and you can edit them with FastFoto app or with standard Windows Picture viewing/editing App. Key Solution: - do NOT CUT and PASTE pictures from the original scanning folder. - COPY and PASTE pictures from the original FastFoto Scanning folder. - Copied pictures will be fully editable by any software.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I was able to fix this problem by adding myself as the owner to the folder that was created by FastFoto. After that, all editing was allowed. Using File Explorer, look at Properties for the folder. Then go to the Security tab and see if you are listed. If not, click on Edit permissions and add yourself with Full Control
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Epson needs to fix this problem. You can't even go back and turn a photo once to have exited out of a directory using the Epson Fastfoto software. The only workaround seems to be to copy all your photos out to another machine and then back to a new directory.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.epson's answer is useless. the only solution i've found to this problem is to copy all the pictures to a new folder that you created OUSIDE of the epson program. then if you use FastFoto program to look at the pictures (in that new directory) the buttons are no longer grayed out and you have full edit capability.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I've run into the same issue. I even reset Windows on my desktop (since it was due for a reset anyway) and all of my photo files under the default Pictures directory and a new FastFoto directory I created are locked as Read Only. I've tried adjusting the security settings on the folders, subfolders, etc. Even tried adjusting the directory permissions via the command line, something is getting these folders stuck where the files cannot be edited, and this is with a completely new Windows 11 and FastFoto install. In the meantime I am using NAPS2, its an open source scanning utility and it appears to work fine with the FF-680W (dark photo graininess also appears to be improved, but the scanning face is reversed (Double sided will scan both towards and away from the scanner, single sided will only scan the side away from the scanner). Will reach out to Epson support.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My workaround has been to select the photos and share with specific people and select me and click share. Not sure why the software is leaving the permissions in a weird state. Just got the unit so working through the issues.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Any suggestions on what to do with your photos . This is so frustrating. I have literally scanned close to 1000 photos now.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm having the same issue, I cant save rotated images as it says I dont have permissions to do that on my own PC.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yeah, the Epson guy clearly copped out. None of the resources he mentioned helps a user to change the security setting on scanned photos - and, the problem seems to be random. Some can be edited and some cannot - all scanned an viewed in the FastFoto software. I'll try moving the files to a new folder, but that seems like a crappy solution - and pushes me away from the Epson app (which would seem to be contrary to the company's interest in satisfying their customers). I'll be slamming them with a Google review.
