Hello Steve. The WF-2960 is designed to only work with genuine Epson 222 and 222XL Ink Cartridges. Third-party ink is not supported in the machine and can affect warranty and functionality. To get pricing on ink cartridges, please visit BestBuy's website for more details. Regards, Kevin - The Epson Team.

As with my Epson WF-2850 which has been using non-Epson inks successfully for months, what they probably mean with the WF-2960 is that it will check your ink cartridge and refuse to use them when non-Epson inks are detected. Mine shows the error "Cannot recognize the Ink Cartridge" in an endless loop, so I cannot print. It functioned fine until a recent update at which point it refused to let me continue with my off brand ink cartridges. I finally broke down and bought Epson brand CYMK cartridges, but the Epson Magenta cartridge is not recognized, so now it seems I am forced to buy a new printer. I understand Printer manufacturers market and sell their own ink, often offering convenient subscription programs, but when the printer can recognize I'm using more affordable, non-Epson inks and stop it from printing ... let's just say it's a huge disappointment.
