The Roku device itself is connected to the tv via the hdmi cable. Therefore the distance is dictated by the length of the cable you are using. The one that comes with it is very short - barely reached to the top of my 42” tv!

If you need a longer HDMI cable than the one included, make sure it meets the same specifications to maintain the same audio-video quality when streaming. One consideration with HDMI, is the longer the cable length , the more signal degradation there will be. Using a shorter length HDMI cable is ideal and will result in better audio-video quality when streaming with your Roku Express 4K+. To answer your questions it is possible to use up to a 50' HDMI cable without an inline signal booster ,but it is not recommended.
