This game can definitely be enjoyed without prior knowledge of any far cry games, although, there are some subtle references to other far cry games but most far cry games are their own contained story.

If you want the season pass, that includes content from the villains of far cry 3, 4, and 5, so you might not understand that if you play it.

The game will follow its own independent storyline, and you do not need to play any of the previous games to understand the plot of Far Cry 6.
