If you've been exercising for 15 minutes, it will pick it up. You can also set it to bike exercise on your watch. Otherwise, it will register on the FitBit app as "outdoor bike exercise." The tracker itself does not have a way to connect, say, to your shoes so it is relying on your personal body information combined with the workout length and heart rate while during the workout to estimate the results of the workout.
