• The dongle that comes with the Fitbit HR is for plugging into your USB port either on your laptop or PC. If you don't want to use it you can also download the Fitbit APP for an IPhone and it will upload your data to the Fitbit website. I use both and my steps, etc. all automatically upload once I am within 20 feet or so of my laptop of phone. You do have to go onto Fitbit website though and set up an account for yourself and get the Fitbit to link to your Laptop/PC or phone for it to work. Hope this helps.

• The dongle is to plug into a USB port on a laptop or other computer so that your Fitbit can sync directly with it. I use my phone app to get all my information from my Fitbit so I don't even use the dongle.

• The dongle is to synch it with your computer. If you have a smart phone with bluetooth then it will synch that way but if you did not, then you would use the dongle for that.

• You only need the dongle if you are syncing your Fitbit to a computer and not to a smartphone

• It IA a Bluetooth adaptor for a computer. In case you have a phone that is not Bluetooth capable.. which at this point isn't many.
