The phone or computer keeps your data in sync to monitor trends, progress, etc. Moreover, you can't configure the device without one. You need a smartphone or computer to set up your profile, fitness targets, etc. Even the clock setting is done automatically through the phone or PC when it synchronizes.

Quite simply put it'd be a waste of money if you don't intend to connect it to anything.
