Noise is of great importance to me when looking for an air conditioner. It is hard to judge since you can't see them working in the store like a refrigerator. So I trusted the Frigidaire specs for sound level which claimed 53 db, which is incredibly low. Normal conversation is around 70 db. When it was finally installed, I turned it on and I could not believe how much air it was moving so quietly. My wife came in and her first reaction was, "It's so quiet!" A few other friends have also remarked on this. The three fan speeds are very similar in their sound output. This unit seems to be a real rethinking of the engineering of air conditioner design. The compressor does not "clunk" loudly when it starts or when it shuts off. This clunk can be a real deal breaker when used in a bedroom. There is a sort of soft start feature that brings it up slowly. Also, when used in economy mode, the fan comes on every few minutes to test the air temp to see if it should turn on the compressor for cooling. Clever. The remote control is very handy, however I have not tried using it as a thermostat yet.
