Nope.. if your window closes downward that can be used as a brace if you screw it shut or in my case i took window out and used a wood brace at the top to keep unit in place.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Definitely not. If the window were left open, any air conditioner would tip out. All of them are designed so that when you put the air conditioner in the window then lower the sash, the weight is carried by the sash. If it's a large, heavy air conditioner, your main concern should be not dropping it out the window onto your car parked below (assuming you're in a city...)
