Q: QuestionHow loud is the "splashing" noise?A few reviewers have commented on a loud splashing sound, I have a 5000btu Frigidaire that makes that noise, it's very irritating. I'll be using my new unit in the bedroom, Is it supposed to make a splashing sound? And is Frigidaire's "splashing" louder then other brands?

• A:Answer This model is defective by design--the water that is slung appears to smash off of the inside of the case, as well as the condenser (don't ask me how), causing intolerably loud noise that you will not, and should not, tolerate. Don't buy it--you'll simply end up returning it.

Q: QuestionIs there a problem with the Econ mode thermostat?I bought this last week, and it doesn't frequently go on while in Economy mode. See the attached photo: Even with a room 9° warmer than my setting, it was not running at all! When it does turn on, it often blows for less than a minute and shuts off. So my room is too warm unless I run it in cool mode. Given that I bought this for the Energy Star feature, I am disappointed. Did I get a lemon, or is this a common problem? Is there something I could do to address this? Should I exchange it? (I hope not, as this means I'll have additional transportation / installation costs!)

• A:Answer Seems to be a common problem with econ mode on most units. The temperature delta they have to see in order to kick the full system back on is too high. Sometimes they seem to work well, but usually they end up causing the temperature in the room to fluctuate far too much, rather than keeping it consistent. It's a pain, but you are probably better off just to keep putting it on cool mode. If your AC unit literally never kicks on the condenser when you have it in econ mode though, I would say yours probably does have an issue.

Q: QuestionCan I buy the mounting hardware only for this AC somewhere?I was given this AC unit however the screws, lock frames, and seals were not given to me. Is there someone I can purchase it separately?

Q: QuestionLoud "rattling" when compressor isn't running?Does anyone else have issues with this unit being inconsistently loud when the fan only is running? There's a strange, erratic rattling when it's just the fan. When the compressor kicks in it's by no means quiet, but a consistent noise that isn't nearly as bothersome.

• A:Answer Check to see if the front grate where the air filter is located is loose. While the AC is rattling simply hold your hand against the grate. If the noise stops you have found your problem. You can then switch to a thicker spongy filter that will take up the excess space. Hope it helps.

• A:Answer Yes, but you are not supposed to. This and most modern AC units are designed to fling water collected into the pan onto the AC condenser. This is to increase cooling efficiency and save some energy. In my experience, it can also be quite noisy. That said, you can drill a hole in the pan, provided you know where to drill. You can also put absorbent material at the back of the unit laying into the collection pan to allow water to wick into it and drip out the back of the unit. However, you simply aren't supposed to with this kind of unit, and I'm sure it could void your warranty as well. After warranty, I don't think it will actually harm the unit if you do wish to drain the water, it might make it a little less efficient, but probably a lot quieter.

• A:Answer They do not recommend it, but I have mine mounted in the wall. Just make sure you tilt the unit so the water drains out the back. If not it will drip water inside.

Q: QuestionWhat is the TRUE minimum width of window to install this unit?Width of unit is 18.5 inches. My replacement window is 22.5 inches wide. Can I still install this unit and why do they state a window of 23 inches is required for a unit of 18.5?

• A:Answer Let me answer my own question since I bought and installed this unit. I don't know if all replacement windows are like mine but my outside vinyl opening is 22.5 inches while my inside sill is still the original wood with an opening of 28inches which accommodates the side panels with no problem. Simple installation with no added steps.

Q: QuestionHow would you go about cleaning this air conditioner?I have something similar to this in my window now, but it's been in the window through winter and it's time to clean it out. I've taken two of the three air conditioners to the car wash and cleaned them out that way, but since this one has a digital function, I was told that I probably won't be able to clean it the same way as the two traditional ones. It really needs to be cleaned since the air coming out occasionally has an odor.
