Vertically, at the top of the door, toward the front. By default, it vents into the room or you can direct vent through a wall or attic, using the supplied adapter plate.

That being said, yes, the in room exhaust vent is at the top front section. The unit comes out of the box setup for room exhaust. You would need to move around some parts to get it to vent in the other ways.
