The ice maker has a water hook up and will use whatever water comes from that water line. If you have a filtration system before that water line, then yes (e.g. we just installed a Culligan water softener and reverse osmosis water tank; however our house has old copper lines that wouldn't connect to the system, so our ice maker uses softened water, not reverse osmosis-filtered). If you don't have any filtration before the water line, then no.
