No, the sides are not stainless. They are painted. The sides show in my kitchen too, but it looks fine.

I have the stainless steel front with the grey sides. I wasn't sure about that since most of the side would show but it actually looks fine. Not as dark as you'd think. You can go to Hobby Lobby or Michaels and get magnetic sheets to cover the sides, fyi.
