The ice maker in the door is controlled by the panel on the front of the door. The ice maker in the freezer has an on/off switch so you can turn it on or off, it does to producing ice when the bin is full, when emptied down again it resumes operation. The freezer unit is in no way controlled by the front panel. The on/off switch is easy to find, it is a small black toggle switch on the front of the ice maker itself.
