• No, the device will work out of the box without adding a micro SD card. However as future map updates are released they may have so much new information that it won’t fit on the device's internal memory, at that point a micro SD card can be used to expand the memory.

• Previous answers have confused SIM cards with SD cards. SIM cards are for Internet access, if it had a cellular radio. It does not. It accesses the Internet via your cell phone, so there is no SIM card in the GPS.
