Q: QuestionDoes this compare to Onstar? Our 2014 Chevy truck is not equipped with the latest technology for Onstar to continue working after 12/31/22. We need a comparable replacement that doesn't require a smart phone. We are not techy folks.

• A:Answer There are a couple of things to consider regarding a Onstar replacement: Emergency calling, cellphone calling & navigation. Without a cellphone, the Garmin DriveSmart 76 is fantastic for navigation. You can set it up to connect to your home WiFi to get the map updates or directly by a USB cable to your computer. The first two features of Onstar, it can not replace. For those features, I would suggest contacting your Chevy Dealer to see about any upgrades to, what I'm guessing, would be a modem upgrade from 3G to either 4LTE or 5G. I know many alarm companies have done the same. So I would hope Chevy could do the same. Hope this helps.

Q: QuestionThe power cable is not long enough to allow mounting in the best location. Two questions: 1) Is "traffic" still dependent upon an antenna inside the power cable? 2) What is the most efficient way to extend the cable?

Q: QuestionHello. Shopping for a GPS that is totally up to date with all of the new exchange numbers on all of the highways; also, is there a way I can update this device frequently for new changes. Is above a good GPS?

• A:Answer Hello. This GPS gets regular map and software updates that can be downloaded via WiFi or by computer. The Drive Smart App which is needed for the traffic updates will also let you know when a software update is available. I usually check it every couple of months manually but if you have WiFi available it will automatically look for updates every time the power is disconnected while in the car and automatically shut down. This is a very nice GPS! Good luck.

• A:Answer It uses the "OK Garmin" voice prompt for entering destinations, etc. Not as robust as your phone's digital assistant. I don't use it that often but it does work.
