The Garmin Forerunner counts all your steps even if you are holding something. It works very well. I have never had any issues with the counting function whatsoever.

This results in activities such as pushing a stroller not accumulating steps. You can refer to the FAQ article below for more information: http://support.garmin.com/support/searchSupport/simpleCase.htm?caseId={c3e88480-fbb3-11e3-c98c-000000000000}&kbName=garmin -NM
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My venu counts only about a third of my steps when pushing my child in his stroller compared to doing the same walk without the stroller. My guess is that without swinging your arms it can't really get an accurate step count. GPS works great though. Would recommend for that use.

Some trackers will allow you to put your stride in but if you are walking up hills or down hills your stride changes. The best this is to understand that its going to give you the most accurate that any manufacturer can supply. Best thing is to change your eating habits, where your taking in less calories, go out and walk. If you average step is about 30inches from the front foot toe to the back foot heal you should walk between 4.5-5 miles a day to get to the 10000 step mark, if that's your goal. Good luck and stay healthy.
