“Since the Garmin itself does not connect to the Wifi but uses my phones cell signal, I am wondering, since my car has Wifi, and my phone is connected to that Wifi, will the Garmin therefore "use" that signal, or will it still swallow my 4g signal?”

• It actually uses a Bluetooth connection to your phone for data transfer. If your phone is getting its data for in-car WiFi that’s what will be used.

• I don't know for sure but, I looked at the app and I do not see a way to change the Wifi source. You could look on Garmin's site or contact their tech support to find the question. I use my phone's wifi.
