Hi Keri- The overall depth is 17 3/4 in. (includes bump-out). It does not have a right-angle plug. Microwaves need adequate air clearance on each side, the rear and the top to function properly. This allows good circulation for the intake and discharge air vents: 3" of clearance on both sides and the top; 1" clearance in the rear (recommended). Also, The front edge of the microwave (measured at door) should sit at least 3" or more back on the counter or shelf to avoid accidental tipping. See MICROWAVE AIR CLEARANCE - COUNTERTOP ONLY MODELS: https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=21668 - This can also be referenced on page 3 of the Owner's Manual at this link: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-40785.PDF - Keep in touch! Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The description of 17.85 inches is accurate & includes the fan/motor bump in the back. It should be just fine in the 18 inch space mentioned. Very happy with mine.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The main housing is 16" and the addition distance is the large bump in the back. So the Total distance is what is listed in the dimensions.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This microwave has a regular plug that sticks out from the wall and requires 1 inch clearance in the back. The microwave is 18.85 inches in depth with the clearance space included.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It does include the the fan housing and cord in back however the mfgr states there should be at 3 inches of space around each of the sides and top and 1 inch of free space at the rear of the unit for proper ventilation. The mfgr also states there should be a few inches of counter space in front of the unit for stability safeness. I've only had this unit for a month now but I am totally satisfied with it so far.
