QuestionWe just had our microwave installed, but when turning the exhaust fan off, it's really loud and sounds like it doesn't want to stop, Like it is hitting something as it stops. We haven't cooked anything, this is just testing the buttons. Is this normal?

- Answer Hello Angel, Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your over the range microwave. We are sorry to hear you are experiencing a loud sound and know this must be frustrating. A fan where the internal components are located will run continuously while the microwave is in operation to constantly circulate the air and cool the working parts. It is normal for the internal fan for the electronics to continue to run for a few seconds after the microwave cycle is complete, even if the door is opened. This fan does not circulate air in the cavity. That being said, if it sounds like the exhaust fan is hitting something this is not a normal sound that we would expect from our microwaves. If the microwave is converted to recirculating (ventless), the charcoal filter included (WB02X11550- $8.75 at GEApplianceparts.com) should be replaced when it is noticeably dirty or discolored (usually after 6 to 12 months, depending on usage). - Answer Should work fine. 13 to 16" is the standard, although at the lower range, (13 or 14) microwave vent may occasionally turn on by itself if it feels heat underneath becoming excessively high.
