Q: QuestionWe have the JVM 1490SD which also vents the range below. Would this model do the same or just vent the microwave?

• A:Answer Hi- Thanks for choosing our GE Over-the-Range Microwave Oven JVM3160RFSS! The power level may be entered or changed before or during cooking. Power Level is set for Level 10 (High) unless it is changed. 1. Press Power Level button. 2 Enter new power level by using the number pads or press the Power Level button multiple times until you find the level you want. 3. After you have selected the power level, wait five seconds. The display will go back to the Cook Time screen. 4. Enter cooking time and press START. OR, 1. Press Cook Time button. 2. Enter your cooking time. 3. Press Power Level button. 4. Enter new power level by using the number pads or press the Power Level button multiple times until you find the level you want. 5. After you have selected the power level, wait five seconds. The display will go back to the Cook Time (Enter Time) screen. 6. Press START. Q: QuestionI am replacing a GE JVM1540DN1BB which vents through top cabinet and outside. I have 2 questions: 1. Is venting position in same place on these models so I can re-use existing duct work? 2. Are mount positions (top & rear) the same?

• A:Answer Hi BH- We certainly appreciate your loyalty! Yes, all over-the-range microwaves can be vented to the outside using rigid 3 1/4" x 10" rectangular or rigid 6" round ducting (a rectangular to round transition adapter must be used.) They are shipped from the factory to vent out the top (vertically), but can also be vented out the rear (horizontally). They can also be installed for Recirculating (non-vented). All 30" over-the-range microwaves are approximately the same width, and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Each microwave comes with the mounting hardware (mounting bracket, screws, exhaust adapter), top and rear templates, and installation instructions. • A:Answer Expect $100 plus a service call fee to fix numbers. Or you could remove the microwave to take to a shop.. The range underneath will need to be moved out either way. If you can work around the bad numbers and it still heats you can stretch out the life time. New GE microwaves can be found around $200 but you still need to install. New has a 1 yr warantee and your credit card may extend that further. Be aware that the power cord hole and screw holes seem to keep changing locations with new models or other brands. That means you may have to re-drill up to 3 holes.

Q: QuestionCan you use the timer at the same time time the food is being cooked with the cook timer?The GE microwave JVM1540DMWW that we have right now we can use the timer at the same time we are using the microwave. Some microwaves do not have this ability and we want to get the same feature and were wondering if this GE model has the same feature.

The good news is that all of our 30" Spacemaker over-the-range microwaves are designed to be installed in the same standard upper cabinet space (30" min. width, 12" min.-13" max. depth, 66" min. mounting height). The height and depth of the models may vary slightly, but any of our new models could work in your current space. A model that you may like is the JVM6175DFWW. You will need to use the mounting brackets and hardware that come with the new microwave. The mounting kits have changed over the years and are not interchangeable. • A:Answer Im sure it could be used as a countertop item. I dont recall the instructions having and specific issues. Its just designed and built with the bracketing pre installed. And then the individual installation location can dictate exhaust ventilation distribution. Being its designed for Over stove it pulls steam and vapors up theough unit and then blows them out where desired.

• A:Answer This model would make a great addition to your home. All 30" Over-the-Range Microwaves are approximately the same width and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Therefore, any of our current 30" Over-the-Range microwave models will work as a replacement for an existing 30" Over-the-Range microwave model. When replacing an Over-the-Range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts and exhaust adapter should also be used. -Don@GEAppliances

• A:Answer The new model you're considering will fit in the same space. The features and internal capacity are not the same as your older Profile model. The model number you provided is not quite correct so we are unable to provide specific differences. The cavity size of the new model is smaller and it does not offer the sensor cooking features you have enjoyed. For all new models, we recommend using the mounting bracket and hardwire that will be packaged with the new microwave. -Vikki@GEAppliances
