- Answer Hey Bob, if you are replacing with the same brand, it should be easy. It does take two people, though, and you need to be certain that the holes line up in the cabinet above it. If you have a fan, it comes configured for it. If no fan, you have to change it on the new model. Each manufacturer has its own wall bracket, so GE to GE shouldn't be too tough. If you are not handy, pay the $99 and have a beer while you watch.

QuestionDoes anyone know why the finish is cracking off the front of the microwave door?Bought this microwave a year and a half ago from Best Buy. The handle broke and the finish on the front of the microwave door around the window is cracked, chipped and falling apart.

- Answer Yes its caused from the heat off the stove to solve this from happing ing the future turn on the fan while cooking for long period's on the cooktop. This will help.

Therefore, any of our 30" over-the-range models will work as a replacement for your existing 30" over-the-range model JVM1540DP1WW. Also, the over-the-range models are all designed for adaptation for the following three types of ventilation: 1. Outside Exhaust (Vertical – Delivered from factory in vertical position). 2. Outside Exhaust (Horizontal). 3. Recirculating (Non-vented ductless). This makes choosing a replacement microwave easy. NOTE: When replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. QuestionOn our new GE JVM3160RF2SS, the clock/timer display is extremely bright, brighter than I recall on the identical unit we replaced. Can this display brightness be adjusted somehow? If it's in the manual, I missed it!

- Answer Same issue with me. Clock light is too bright. Almost hurts the eyes to look at it. Our previous same GE microwave was much more subdued and the light was a green. Softer green light. Possible solution might be to remove the control cover and insert a piece of transparent green film over the clock / control area. Dean Mountlake Terrace, WA

- Answer Hi Kanu- Yes, JVM3160RF2SS and JVM3160RFSS are actually the same. JVM3160RF2SS is the complete model number. When the model is manufactured, the extra number is placed on the appliance rating plate and product registration card. This number is used to identify manufacturing specific data when the appliance is made. Should service or parts be needed, this is used as an identifier for the specific appliance. - Answer Hello, This is Lisa from GE. If you had an over the range microwave, any of our 30 inch wide over the range models will fit in the same space. There may be a slight difference in height and depth, but the width will fit. You will need to use the mounting plate that comes with the new model. Model JVM3160DFBB should work fine. - Answer Thank you for asking a great question. The model beginning with JNM means it comes from factory as a non-vented or recirculating. the model that starts JVM means it comes from factory as vented model but you can change to recirculating when ready to install it. QuestionHello. I am looking to replace a GE over the range microwave oven which is model #JVM1440WH04, with the JVM3160DFWW. My question is are the top screws and the rear mounting brackets identical or in the same locations so that it could be a straight swap.

- Answer The installer said there are two types of mounting brackets. In his work, he says it's a 50-50 chance the old and new will be the same (for GE). In our case, the top holes and the mounting bracket were different. But the installer did an excellent job of replacing the old/new bracket and of drilling new holes into the cabinet above. I covered old holes with duct tape, making the cabinet bottom still useable for some storage. Electric cord could use the old hole, and vent cutout was the same.

QuestionMy model JE1640WB 001 stopped working and makes a terrible noise. Its built in so I want one that will fit the same space without having to replace the surround area. Is this model the correct one to purchase or is there another one that will fit.

The JVM3160DFWW is not a correct replacement as it is not a built-in model. It is an over-the-range microwave and it is not approved for in-cabinet installation. - Answer My experience (1/2019) was with replacing a GE Model JVM231WV001 30" wide, circa 1995, with a current production, GE JVM3160DFCC with the same, standard width. I elected for delivery and installation. The installers were in and out the front door in exactly 15 minutes --- having dismounted the old unit, drilled new bolt holes, installed a new bracket, mounted and tested the new unit , plus carted away the old unit (no disposal charge). These guys really knew what they were doing. The lesson here is that it was a very wise choice to go with professional installation on what would have been a very tedious job for this skilled home owner..
