Q: QuestionI am replacing an over the counter GE Microwave with an external vent fan, Model No. JVM3160RF3SS, manufactured in 2017. The closest model I can find is the JVM3160RFSS. Will it fit and will the fan vent externally?

• A:Answer We just replaced a similar GE microwave too. Ours was from 2015, maybe 2014. The vent fan was in the exact same place and yes you are able to change the vent to go UP or BACK.

Q: QuestionI have this exact microwave but it died after 2 1/2 years. Will all GE OTR microwaves fit in the same (installation) bracket or are they all different? Husband doesn't want to replace the mounting bracket.

• A:Answer It might not. The size may be the same but the supporting structure may not fit your new unit. The bracket is very easy to replace though.

Improper use and installation of appliances will void the warranty. We do have countertop microwaves that can also be built in, but they do not fit the same cutout as an over-the-range microwave. • A:Answer Venting is up to you, and if you already have an existing vent to the outside. Most "over the range" microwaves give you the option of either venting to your existing exhaust (to the outside), or recirculating the air through the microwaves internal exhaust function. For example, I installed mine in a rental property, with no external vent. Therefore I set it up for the recirculating function. Hope this answers your question!

Q: QuestionThe vent automatically comes on anytime I cook something. Is this typical or is there a way for me to turn the vent off while it cooks? It's set to recirculating.

Q: QuestionI am replacing my microwave, and I'm concerned that I might have a problem because I have faux brick on the wall ( pictured.) My question is, will I have to remove this material for the mounting bracket to be attached or can I mount it directly?

• A:Answer I would think you could put the new mounting bracket there, use anchors if needed and long enough screws to make it through the faux wall as well as the drywall behind it. You may need to get your own hardware if the screws provided with the microwave bracket aren’t long enough.

Q: QuestionI just bought the Samsung Model: MC17T8000CS -= the instructions show that you need to rotate the blower for recirculation - since I have no vent. However, after removing teh screws it is obvious the top plate over the blower will not come out .

• A:Answer Mine had to relocate the cover plate to force the air from the blower motor out the front, as I did not have an outside vent to hook up to either. I did not have to move the blower motor.
