Hello, This is Michelle with GE and I am happy to help. This microwave model JVM6172RFSS has a turntable that is both recessed and removable. Recessed means that the floor of the microwave is lower where the turntable is located, allowing the top of the turntable surface to be about even with the remaining floor area of the microwave. This allows move useable space in the oven cavity. It is also removable for easy cleaning. Thank you for checking with us!
