Hello- Thank you for your question. The bump out kit is only needed if your cabinet is 14", 15" or 16" deep. Note: Microwaves should be installed in a 12"-13" deep cabinet. In order to install an over-the-range microwave under a deeper cabinet (14",15", or 16") deep cabinet, a Bump Out Kit is required.
