Yes... regardless of what GE says it this unit CAN be built in (as well as other countertop microwaves). The confusion over GE trim kits is because of GE's standard "No it can't" response but only because GE doesn't not offer a trim kit for this specific model (or their other "countertop" models. FACT: Our 10 year old GE microwave finally died. It was a countertop model installed above our Dacor wall oven and finished off with a beautiful trim kit from Microtrim.com . When the old microwave died we panicked thinking we would need to buy another trim kit. Luckily we discovered this model was the same exact size and a perfect replacement. We took out the old oven, slid in this one in and simply reinstalled our existing trim kit. NET: GE only says it not designed to be built-in because "they" don't make a trim kit for it. Just make sure whatever trim kit you buy there is adequate ventilation space inside the cabinet. The kits from microtrim have fresh air louvers as part of their design.
Sorry, there was a problem. Of course i had to remove the trim to take out the old unit and put the replacement in, then reinstall the trim. So if you get this unit with the corresponding trim piece i am sure that it be put into service as a built in unit.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It seems as if GE has decided to use a ploy to trick you to buying a higher priced microwave. They stopped supporting countertop microwaves + trim pieces and instead push the GE Profile line at twice the price. If I find a trim piece that is compatible with this model I will attempt to update this answer with the info. Thanks.

We use it as a built in microwave with a matching stainless steel trim kit added and it looks amazing! It is also just a counter-top microwave and can stand on its own. During this crazy pandemic our microwave died and I used YouTube to figure out how to remove the stainless steel trim kit and got the old microwave out and put the new one in its place. I have yet to figure out how to put the trim kit back on, but microwave still looks great in the space and will look even better with trim kit installed. Highly recommend this microwave.

Model # JES2051SN4SS is intended for countertop use and not compatible with a trim kit. A comparable model is GE Profile™ 2.2 Cu. Ft. Built-In Sensor Microwave Oven Model #: PEB7227ANDD. This model is compatible with 27" Trim Kit JX7227SLSS (Stainless steel) and 30" Trim Kit JX7230SLSS (Stainless steel). Trim Kits are sold separately.
