Hi - Thank you for your interest in a GE French door refrigerator. In the event of an extended power outage, there is a possibility the ice in the bin could melt. In most cases, the water from the ice will be contained within the ice bin but could spill out onto the floor of the freezer if the ice bin was full of ice at the time of the outage. If the failure occurs when you're at home and you see the ice is beginning to melt, you can empty the ice into a sealed storage container and place it back in the freezer. As far as the electronic panel is concerned, it depends on how the panel fails. There is a possibility the refrigerator and freezer compartments will continue to operate at your last temperature settings even though the temperatures will not display. If the electronic panel fails completely, it may affect the temperature settings as well. We hope this helps. Vikki@GEA
