Hello, This is Nancy from GE and I am happy to help you. This is a wonderful extra-large capacity washer. We avoid the use of pounds as a rating system for washer capacity because a washer is not limited in practical terms by the weight of clothes it can wash. It is limited by the volume of clothes that can be put into the machine. For example, one comforter might fill up the entire machine but weigh very little, while blue jeans are heavier but a smaller load. When filling the washer, we recommend dropping the clothes into the basket and not pushing them down. The clothes have to be able to move around. Huge, stuffed loads won't wash well. I hope this is helpful. Thank you for contacting GE!
