Hi Merletta - Thanks for choosing GE Model JP5030DJBB! Flat Bottom pans are essential for good cooking performance since the bottom of the pan needs to touch the glass for the best heat transfer. Stainless steel is highly recommended. A sandwich-clad bottom is especially good because it combines the durability and stability of stainless steel with the heat conduction and distribution of aluminum or copper. Heavy-weight aluminum cookware is also recommended. It conducts heat faster than other metals and cooks evenly. Aluminum residue sometimes appears as scratches on the cooktop, but these can be removed if cleaned immediately. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I use cast iron, metal and aluminum. I did not have to purchase special cookware. They reccomend your cookware should have a flat bottom to even cooking distribution. Like a wok on four legs is not recommended.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Ours has heating elements under the glass and cooks off radiant heat. so use don’t have to have special cookware, but you should be careful not to use cookware that might be abrasive on the bottom such as cast iron, due to scratching the glass top. Also note on the one we bought, the max Amp current shows it pulls just over 30 amps and the mfg. recommend using 8 awg wire and 40 amp breaker. The cooktops that use induction heat (magnets) are the one that the mfg. recommends using special cookware.
