I am concerned about this as well. After spending a grand on this machine I don't want it scratched. Our previous white whirlpool top loader was scratched a lot. The sides and front of this machine I am not too concerned about, but the top looks just too easy to scratch. I decided to cover it. The solution I picked was the rubber mesh stuff that gets sold for the lining of kitchen drawers and cabinets. I bought it in black and it looks just fine on the top of the blue washer. FYI I trick I use for saving money - I don't buy it when packaged and sold for kitchen drawer use. The exact same material is sold for placing under area rugs and small carpets for holding them in place on hard floors. It is the same thing, but they package it in large sizes at the same price as the kitchen liners. A pair of scissors is all it takes.

To keep your washer looking good as new, we suggest doing your best not hitting the unit with hard sharp objects as they could damage the exterior. To clean the exterior we recommend immediately wiping off any spills. Wipe or dust spills or washing compounds with a damp cloth. Washer control panel and finishes may be damaged by some laundry pretreatment and stain remover products. Apply these products away from the washer. We hope this helps.
