Q: QuestionYour ad says ...will fit in old "free standing" cutout. How does the oven fit if the the old range is NOT free standing but slide in with counter running at the back of the range? I saw install diagram but not clear about fit. Must know before purchase!!

• A:Answer Hi - The GE Profile™ Series Slide-In Front Control Induction and Convection Range is designed to fit nearly flush at the rear wall with standard 25" deep countertops. It will not fit properly in a space where there is counter at the back of the range. Q: QuestionIts not clear from the install manual how the edge of the slide-in range is supposed to be in relation to countertop. Is it supposed to be flush and equal in height to adjacent counter or should edge of range overhang over adjacent counter? Thanks,

• A:Answer Hi rudog - Starting in September 2017, we are offering electric, gas, and dual fuel front control slide-in ranges with no overhang, an edge-to-edge cooking surface, and color matched finished sides. No overhang simplifies installation, especially with countertop less than or more than 36" and can be installed with counters with beveled edges. Q: QuestionHi, I was wondering approximately how long the cooktop takes to cool to a touchable level after cooking something? I understand that it won't get hot without the correct pan, but after cooking, how long does it take the heat from cooking to go away?

• A:Answer Not sure if your interest is on the glass surface temperature (for safety) or in keeping food hot. It depends. If temperature of what you just finished cooking was high, it will take longer to cool down. If the hot pan is left on the cooktop it can take several minutes to cool. This basically depends on the characteristics of the pan. A heavy one, will take longer, but this is the same as in the case of any other range. If the hot pan is removed after completing cooking, the glass surface may need about one minute to cool. Consider that if the hot pan is removed, what remains hot is the cooktop glass, only, no other metal parts as in a regular range. In any case, an indicator will let you know that the area is hot.

Q: QuestionWhen I wipe to clean the control panel: it activates various commends. To clean the control panel (when cooking) I have to shut off the glass top, clean, and restart. Very disruptive. Is there another option?

• A:Answer There's a button that says LOCK CONTROLS, press and hold that for 3 seconds and it locks the controls so you can clean, press and hold it again for 3 seconds to unlock it.

Q: QuestionHow does the ventilation work on this model? Do I need any special ventilation considerations?

• A:Answer Ventilation for the oven is at the rear of the cook top; there are black vents placed horizontally where the glass of the cook top ends. For ventilation of the kitchen, I would only use a range hood vented to the outdoors. Microwave vents are worthless since they don't have enough pull. I had the oven cranking for Christmas (450 deg F) and the stove top didn't get hot, nor did the handles. Cooling fans for the actual burners is internal, and are very very quiet. I had the predecessor of this model, and this new incarnation is much quieter.

Q: QuestionI've heard that induction cooking can be noisy and make a buzzing noise. Is there anyway to measure the level of noise/buzzing to compare different models and or brands for induction slide in ranges?

• A:Answer Hi Parker - Thanks for your interest! While decibel ratings are not available, a humming sound while cooking or boiling is normal. Slight sounds, like hums or buzzes may be produced by different types of cookware. Heavier pans, such as enameled cast iron produce less noise than a lighter weight multi-ply stainless steel pan. The size of the pan and the amount of contents can also contribute to the sound level. When using adjacent elements that are set at certain power level settings, pan noise may interact and produce a low whistle or intermittent "hum". These noises can be reduced or eliminated by lowering or raising the power level settings of one or both of the elements. Pans that completely cover the element ring will produce less noise. Q: QuestionPHS930 Induction Range: How many levels of heat are available on the burner controls. I count 19 Led's. Does that mean there is 19 heat levels available? Is there any way to tell what level of heat you are at other than the LED's?

• A:Answer Basically, yes. Cookware needs to be able to respond to a magnetic field. Cast iron and plain steel work well. Aluminum doesn’t work at all. Stainless steel is variable. If a magnet sticks to a lt, it will work. Most common stainless steel won’t. There are diffusers that can be placed between the cooktop and a pot to heat but they are not ideal. They do not work at high heat and can cause pitting of the cooktop.

Q: QuestionWhy does the storage drawer have a thicker drawer slide bracket on left vs. the flatter one on right. The result is that the drawer front is misaligned 1/8" to the right. We had our 1st unit replaced and 2nd has same problem. Highly noticeable.

Electric ovens with Hidden Bake and the Fast Preheat feature take approximately 7-10 minutes is the oven is installed at its proper voltage (240 volts for electric). Many newer ranges have a Preheat that will signal when the oven has reached a temperature hot enough to add food, rather than when the set temperature is reached. We test our ranges with prepackaged foods, frozen pizzas, baked goods, etc. We put the items in at the beep, and get good results. This can help save time in the kitchen, since you are not waiting longer for the preheat than necessary, in most cases. Recipes can differ, as can a food's preheat requirements. Most foods we tested don't require additional oven heating, though there are always exceptions. If you're finding a recipe isn't cooking properly, then you may want to turn on the oven a little bit before you start your food preparation to give it a little more time. We know a variety of cooking options can be useful when using your oven, and we’re glad to advise this model does feature Bake, Broil, Warm, etc. modes in addition to Convection Bake and Convection Roast. Therefore, you don't have to use the convection feature if you'd rather not; you can simply select which option would be best from the menu when starting.
