Mark, I assume the question you asked has already been answered. The answer to your question is: 1 - This oven is rated for 40 Amps 2 - The electric oven should be on it's own dedicated double breaker. (It takes up two spaces in your breaker box) This is what you have. 3 - The 6 ft cord is purchased separately 4 - There are two different cords available for purchase. One of the cords is for 3 prong outlets. The other plug is for 4 prong outlets. 5 - Older homes may have 3 prong outlets. 6 - New homes should have 4 prong outlets. Conclusion - You are fine with just purchasing a 40 Amp Range Plug with 3 prongs. You do not need to upgrade the breaker. Since it is a dedicated breaker, the oven is the only "electrical device" that can use this breaker. You can not be limited.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Update to my original answer. Best Buy only sells 6-foot 50 Amp Range Plugs (3 or 4 prongs). A 50-amp plug (cord) is fine to use on a 40 Amp breaker.
