  • QuestionMy old Frigidaire had an air vent control. Does this one? I want to be able to use recirculated room air only but also have an option to exhaust air to the outside while air conditioning with room air only.

    Asked by A123.

    • Answer Hi A123, thanks for reaching out! When using the air conditioner, the unit will pull air from the room, filter it, and will blow cool air back into the room. Any heat from the unit is then exhausted through the back and to the outdoors. If you have more questions about the function or settings of this unit, we would recommend taking a look at the Owner's Manual. If you have other questions, feel free to let us know. Stay safe. -Michael

  • QuestionDoes the filter need to be replaced, or is it washable? How often?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Hi - Thanks for choosing GE Model AHP12LZ! The air filter can be washed with warm, soapy water. Rinse and let the filter dry before replacing it. The air filter behind the front grille should be checked and cleaned at least every 30 days or more often if necessary. The filter indicator light will come on after 250 hours of operation as a reminder to clean the filter. • QuestionWhat is the SEER rating for cooling? Specifications don't list.

    Asked by Smythy.

    • Answer Hi Smythy - Thanks for viewing Model AHP12LZ! CEER rating is 11.4. CEER (Combined Energy Efficiency Ratio) is the new standard by which Window Air conditioners are rated by the DOE (Department of Energy), as of June 2014. It takes in account the energy used while the air conditioner is running, as well as the standby power used when the unit is not running but is powered on. Note: SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) is most commonly used to measure the efficiency of a central air conditioner. Room air conditioners do not have SEER ratings. • QuestionDoes this air conditioner have a vent so that you can choose to have outside air coming in? Or does this air conditioner only use inside air?

    Asked by Eliz.

    • Answer Hi Eliz - Thanks for viewing GE Model AHP12LZ! The air conditioner does not have an outside air vent. Select older model room air conditioners had outside vents that could be used when it is cool outdoors. During these times, the vent could have been opened, allowing the unit to pull in fresh air rather than air conditioning the room. Current models no longer offer this feature. • Questionwhats the yearly estimate cost of this 12,000 btu AC? Also do I HAVE to take off the water drain valve from the bottom, because the manual suggested otherwise.

    Asked by Ash.

    • Answer Hi Ash - Thanks for choosing GE! Estimated Yearly Energy Cost is $102 (based on 13 cents per kWh). Here's the link to the Energy Guide for complete details: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=AHP12LZ-EG.pdf - Also, to ensure maximum efficiency, it is recommended to not remove the rubber drain plug. This plug may be removed during operation to minimize water in the back of the unit; however, removing it will lower the efficiency of your unit. All room air conditioners have a "slinger ring" around the rear fan blade. The ring is designed to pick water up off the bottom of the pan and throw it against the condenser coils. This design feature helps improve the efficiency of the unit by reducing heat on the coils, and helps remove moisture from the pan.It is normal to hear a pinging or sloshing sound as the fan blade moves through the water.
