The ice bucket area is NOT a freezer. While well insulated, ice melt does occur (drips back into water reservoir to be reused) so there is no waste. That said, it takes hours for there to be an appreciable melting and a rate that the unit can replace in short order if left operational.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No it has a basket that fills with ice and a photo eye that shuts it off . But if you don’t use ice out of it for a day the ice will melt. Does not have freezing unit to keep ice from melting
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.There is no freezing component that will keep your ice cold. It will melt over time and the water will then be made into more ice as long as the machine is in ice making mode.

The Opal ice maker does not keep ice frozen in the ice bin. Thawed ice is recirculated back into the reservoir. The unit is typically not hot under most conditions. The Opal makes 38 pounds of ice per day.
