I clean my ice maker weekly, and still have the black sludge showing up...I recommend not buying one of these machines, and am in the process of critiquing it on every blog I can find...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is a build up of deposits in the top tank, and on the ice making auger. There is no way to clan it. I had the same issue and after months of frustration, expensive new filters, pure water sources, I finally gave up and tore it apart. There was caked on deposits through the system. I just replaced it and I recommend you do the same, or live with it.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Are you using tap water? We find that using distilled water keeps the unit cleaner longer and the ice tasting better
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Oh no, we're so sorry to hear that there is black residue in your ice and know what a pain this would be, especially after cleaning it weekly. If black residue is seen inside the Opal Ice Maker (including hoses and tanks), it can be caused by mineral build-up in the machine. Even with filtered water, minerals come through that will build up over time. We recommend the following to help maintain your Opal Ice Maker and remove mineral residue: Increase the frequency of the cleaning cycles performed; Run the cleaning cycle weekly with a bleach solution; Run a cleaning cycle monthly with vinegar to remove mineral deposits and to limit build-ups over time.
