Here are the major differences: - The casing corners are now rounded - The circle LED indicator has been replaced by "touch-sensitive" buttons on the front, as well as distinct word labels stating what the appliance is doing. This includes replacing the rear slider switch for cleaning with touch-button functionality in the front - The plastic ice bin no longer has holes along the rear-bottom; a spring-loaded hole has been added that opens only when the bin is slid all the way into the appliance, thereby preventing drips when fully removing the bin - Overall, the appliance does appear quieter, though that's more subjective - Biggy: when draining the water while cleaning, it completely dumps in about 30 seconds. Previous units took minutes to do this. I hope this helps!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have owned both models. The 2.0 is a lot quieter and the ice is softer than my first build opals. It lasted several years (I was one of the first on the waiting list for it). I really liked my older version but love this new one!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have both, The Opal 2.0 has several design improvements that correct minor inconveniences with the original. The wireless control app works via wi-fi on the newer model vs. Bluetooth on the original.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I looked into that one before & it had bad reviews of having a loud noise while plugged in. It as about $150 lesser, & Ithink that 1 is mostly stainless steel. I went with this one because if I needed to return it, I could go rite into Bestbuy & get a Refund. But lucky I haven’t, I love my 2.0❤️
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. From what I can determine, the 2.0 versions are model XPIO13SCSS (the one best buy sells in stainless steel), and the XPIO13BCBT (the black version which is hard to find.) GE sells the OPAL01GEPKT which I believe is the 2nd generation and the first generation is the original GE outsource model originally made by FirstBuild model OPAL01. BTW, The SmartHQ (android) app only works with the version 2.0 models. The FirstBuild (android) app works with 1st generation models but not the 2.0 ones.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Just punted the Opal 1 after two years. We were cleaning it with vinegar AND bleach every 10 to 14 days to deal with mold and mildew. Finally took off the lid and OMG! The water reservoir was a disgusting mess of black. The unit was very noisy and always ran hot. Rolled the dice on the Opal 2, which arrived yesterday. Significantly quieter, and cooler running. Have read where the water reservoir was relocated on the opposite side of the motor, but have not verified. My initial impression is a much better unit with design flaws in the original corrected. Also…the unit is more expensive. Indicates corners were cut in the original that compromised long term performance and customer satisfaction. Buy the Opal 2…
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. We had two 1.0 fails. Look online and you’ll see a lot of broken ones for sale.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I bought the First Build Opal and it is still making ice 5 years and counting. Secret? Nope. Use distilled or RO water and clean the unit weekly. The GE models have added bells and whistles, but haven't changed the need for the above tip.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The 2.0 has the water tank and it let's the ice drawer hang instead of having to hold it. There's more differences. I'd get the 2.0
