Q: QuestionHave a Ge Pem31sm4ss microwave with an in shelf mounting kit and trim panel. What can I replace it with and still use the mounting kit. Thanks in advance

Q: QuestionI have JEM31GA 002 mcrowave fitted with the trimkit JX827WN. The microwave is ruined and I need a new mcrowave. What model of GE will suit this trimkit JX827WN? I am reluctant to Go in for a new trimkit as it may need alterations in the wooden opening?

This microwave (PEM31SFSS) has a compatible trim kit (JX827SFSS) that has the same cutout dimensions as your current trim kit. Therefore, it should work just fine in your space. However, if you plan to build this new model into a cutout space, you would need to purchase the trim kit associated with this new model. Model PEB7227SLSS actually has the same cutout dimensions and is compatible with black stainless trim kit model JX7230BLTS. Q: QuestionWe have a built in GE Profile Microwave Model # PNM1971SR1SS. It is at least 7 years old and the keypad has a short. I don't know if it is worth the cost of repairing it. If not, which microwave will fit in the space? Do I need to purchase a trim kit?

• A:Answer Hi there, and thank you for reaching out to us. We hate to hear you've had an issue with the keypad of your current model, and know that must be concerning. If you'd like to inquire about a replacement part, that department can be reached at 1-877-959-8688. If you do need a new model, we are glad to advise all of our 30” over-the-range microwaves (which is what your current model is classified as) have approximately the same width and are built to fit a 30” cabinet opening. Any model of this type will therefore work as a replacement for your existing model; PVM9179SKSS is one of our many microwaves that would work. If you do obtain a new microwave, please note the new mounting bracket would need to be used, as those are model specific. The mounting bracket would be included, and a filler kit is available if needed for your space. A trim kit would only be used if you were converting a countertop microwave to a built-in look; we would not recommend using a countertop model, as it hasn't been configured for use over a range. Q: QuestionWhat is the cutout size requirement if this is to be installed as a built-in to a cabinet (not under cabinet) as the specs say is allowed? Currently, only the dimensions of the actual microwave is listed.

• A:Answer Hello - Thanks for the great question, we're happy to help. The PEM31SFSS microwave can be built-in using the JX827SFSS (27") or the JX830SFSS (30") optional built-in kit. The cutout size is 16-1/2" H x 26-78 or 29-7/8" (if using 30" kit) x 16" D with receptacle outside cutout or 18" D with receptacle inside cutout. We hope this helps! However, you may want to consider our PEB7227ANDD that offers the following built-in installation trim kits as an optional accessory. The trim kit provides the stainless framing around the dark gray door and control. Optional 30" Built-In Trim Kit - JX7230SLSS Optional 27" Built-In Trim Kit - JX7227SLSS. Cut-out dimensions for these trim kits are: 16-3/4" H x 25-12" W x 19-1/2 or 22" D. As you can see, some modification would be needed in your existing opening. • A:Answer Hello. We appreciate your interest in this microwave. We certainly understand needing a replacement, and appreciate your loyalty as a GE consumer! The model JEM31WA is no longer being manufactured. We regret any inconvenience this may cause, but can advise the model you asked this question on, PEM31DFWW, appears to have similar dimensions to the former; JEM31WA has dimensions of 11 3/16" H x 23 25/32" W x 12 55/64" D while PEM31DFWW has dimensions of 12 1/8" H x 24" W x 12 7/8" D. If those dimensions would work for you, PEM31DFWW can be mounted using an undercabinet hanging kit, JXA019K. Additional information about installing it, and any needed air clearances, are in the manual. We hope this microwave would be a good replacement option for you, but have various other microwaves that can be mounted under a cabinet as well. • A:Answer Hello. We appreciate the time you took to reach out to us about this microwave, and are happy to advise. Our over-the-range options have been tested and designed to handle the increased temperatures associated with being installed over the stove. This microwave is for countertop use, and can be converted to be built-in and/or hang under the cabinet (the built-in kit options are JX827SFSS or JX830SFSS and the undercabinet hanging kit is JXA019K). It's not intended to be installed over-the-range. We cannot recommend placing another type of microwave over the stove, as such a configuration has not been tested for safety and reliability. Regarding dimensions, our over-the-range microwaves generally have a width of approximately 30" (usually about 29 7/8"). The height and depth may vary a bit more but are usually around 16-17" in height and just under 16" in depth. Further details on any clearance the unit needs, and how far it should be from the range, would be in the installation instructions. When replacing the microwave you will then need to replace the optional trim kit as well when building it into a cabinet. The new model microwave needed is PEB7227ANDD and either of the following trim kits: JX7227SLSS (Stainless steel) for 27" wide cabinet or JX7230SLSS (Stainless steel) for 30" wide cabinet. We know that must be frustrating and are happy to assist with the replacement process. Please note that we aren't able to recommend our residential appliances being used in a commercial setting, and using an appliance in that setting may void the warranty. This does depend on your specific usage situation - a microwave used in an employee cafeteria to regularly prepare food would be more likely to be outside the warranty than one used less frequently in a small break room, for example. Regarding the plug, that would be compatible, as this unit comes with a 3-prong grounding plug. The dimensions of this model are 12 1/8 H x 24 W x 12 7/8 D. After reviewing our system the nearest match to the model number you provided is PEM31SMSS which has a width of 23 25/32". The widths of these units may be slightly different. We would recommend checking the cut out space in your cupboard to see if it will accommodate the dimensions of this newer unit; it may be slightly too wide. If the dimensions for PEM31SFSS will fit your cut out space, we believe this microwave would be a great fit for your needs! The models have different trim kits, but both have a 27" trim kit option. Please note that mounting brackets are model specific, so if you do obtain this model you should make sure to use the bracket that comes with it rather than an old one.
