I just use tap water without any problems. I do live in a city and use the filter. I guess it may depend on how clean your water is.

The GE Profile water filter removes chlorine taste and odor so your nugget ice is clean and pure every time you make it. The filter is a safeguard but we recommend distilled water as it is free from some of the heavy minerals that can deposit in the icemaker. We hope this helps! Joyce@GEA
