It means it's no working right and I just called GE to see what they can do or tell me. You should call them too. 1-866-222-7454. I think they have a defect on their hands.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The noise is a defective bearing in the small fan behind the control panel used to cool the electronics for the controls. Picking up the control side of the oven about an inch while it is making the loud noise and letting it fall back to the counter will most often fix the problem. When you get tired of this, buy a different make of toaster oven.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.mine did the same thing right after the warranty expired... going in the garbage. I'll never buy a GE toaster oven again.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My GE toaster oven started doing this within the warranty period & GE replaced it. The replacement started doing the same thing one month after the warranty expired. I called GE and they said I would need to pay for the repair. I would rather put my money into a toaster oven that isn’t defective.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Same issue here. It comes on without warning and is very loud. Best Buy was NO help in replacing. Had to contact GE. I think there's a bug in this model.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Same thing happened with my first toaster. Best Buy replaced it. I don't think there's a fix. Just replace it.

We hate to hear you’ve had a recent issue with louder than usual noises – we know that must be worrying. We do expect the convection fan to make a humming sound as it works, and the small size of the unit may amplify the fan noise. The unit may also make a whirring/revving sound when it starts sometimes. This may be an issue with the fan. If the noise seems to be out of the ordinary and does not resolve, replacement may be necessary. We do have information on the limited warranty available on page 11 of the manual, which can be viewed on our GE website when you look up the model number and go to the product page. Our Service Department is available at 1-800-432-2737 if you’d like to inquire about a repair. We hope this information is helpful, and the noise issue with your toaster oven is resolved soon. If you have any other concerns or questions, we are happy to offer assistance any time. -Sarah@GEA
